Haldi Doodh
With a clink of Kulhad in spring, we became true friends with Sana Javeri Kadri, founder of Diaspora Co. Our first collab with Diaspora Co. was so dynamic and inspiring. Hot pink Rococo Kulhad cups filled your cabinets and the smell of chai infused all of our homes with a feeling of profound connection.
We’re thrilled to partner with Diaspora again, this time with vibrant Pollen alongside Rococo. Pollen seems like a fitting addition as the spark of our connection with Diaspora Co. grows even brighter.
This time, let’s share the ritual of making and sipping Haldi Doodh, a warm turmeric beverage kissed with sweetness. Enjoy it as a daily ritual or special occasion sip with our Haldi Doodh Kit.
History of Haldi Doodh
Haldi Doodh is a golden elixir of warm milk and turmeric often sweetened with honey, jaggery, or date syrup. It’s instantly comforting and brilliant to bring to your lips. Haldi Doodh is an invitation to soothe yourself and the people you love.
For generations, Indian grandmothers made Haldi Doodh to calm colds and reduce inflammation, aches, and pains. Turmeric is a staple of Ayurveda, an ancient system of holistic medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. After childbirth, people in northern India were prescribed two glasses of turmeric paste and dried ginger powder, mixed with honey, and dissolved in milk to ease postpartum ailments.
Life can still be marked by steaming cups of Haldi Doodh. A sip to release pain after childbirth, a tonic for rough and tumble youth, a moment to mark the joys of life, a drink to make aging sweeter.
Haldi Doodh Recipe
Diaspora Co.’s House Haldi Doodh
Yield: 1 cup
The healing drink of Sana Javeri Kadri’s grandmothers, made distinctly Diaspora. With a base of high-curcumin Lakadong Turmeric and Aranya Black Pepper for maximum absorption, the Haldi Doodh masala includes Makhir Ginger, Baraka Cardamom, and Peni Miris Cinnamon. Vibrant, well-rounded, and wildly delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup plant-based or cow's milk
- 1 to 1¼ teaspoons Haldi Doodh Masala
- Sweetener, like honey, jaggery, or date syrup, to taste
Method:
Stovetop: Combine milk and desired amount of Haldi Doodh Masala in a small saucepan and stir to combine. Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low, add in your sweetener, to taste, then increase the heat to medium again and bring back to a boil. Turn off the heat, pour into your favorite mug and sip.
Microwave: Combine milk and desired amount of Haldi Doodh Masala in a Kulhad and heat in the microwave until it reaches your optimal drinking temperature. Add your sweetener, stir well, and enjoy anytime you get a craving for Haldi Doodh.
A Love Letter to Brass
There is nothing quite like a meaningful, hand-hammered brass serving spoon or perfectly-sized coffee scoop to make these simple moments of eating and drinking feel extra special.
Use the brass ladle to transfer hot chai from the stove into your kulhad, or scoop haldi doodh into a steaming pot of milk with the elegant wood handled brass spoon.
These brass pieces are meant to live in your home for a long, long time. And with use and love, they’ll darken and calm to a rich patina and become part of a lifelong story.

The Kulhad

East Fork x Diaspora Co.
East Fork is a vessel for many things, one of the most important: connection. Collectors connect over shared glaze admiration and reminisce on the forms that got away. Friends and loved ones tell stories while passing serving bowls around the table. Children sip from their juice cups, admiring the matching mug in the adult hand. As we continue weaving connections through our pots, we are honored to bring back a limited time vessel steeped in tradition and filled to the brim with human connection, a Kulhad in collaboration with Diaspora Co., on September 8th.
Founder Sana Javeri Kadri launched Diaspora Co. in 2017 with one spice, Pragati Turmeric. Today, they source 30 single-origin spices from 150 farms across India and Sri Lanka. Diaspora Co. has been an East Fork partner and pantry staple since we began carrying spices in the shop in 2019. Much like our CEO, Connie Matisse, Sana is a courageous and impassioned woman advocating for transformative work, proving intentional business can be successful while also reimagining the ways we can navigate through capitalism with compassion.
